New York, 29 January 2015 – It’s not all work, and no play
Louise Reynolds
This week we’ve all been assigned our clients and it’s all starting to feel more real. I was assigned to the audit of a number of Private Equity clients this week which is really interesting. My Manager has been very helpful in providing support and guidance as we begin our assignments.
Even though the temperatures were well below zero we decided to take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry to get a better view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. We couldn’t manage more than 5 minutes outside in the cold before it was time to go back inside again!

The first couple of weeks have been busy. It’s all about getting up to speed and we’re learning plenty. The view from the office over San Francisco is great!
A great party to welcome new arrivals to the team was organised. Along with myself and my colleague, Roisin Cahill, from the Dublin office, there are four secondees from the Mumbai office and some new joiners too.

The first week was exciting for everyone, settling into a new place, meeting new people and learning the ways of a new firm. Our jobs for next week have been assigned and I’m looking forward to getting started!
New York City was not something new to me, but -8 degrees when we arrived at JFK airport was!!
We didn’t let the cold stop us though, we are in New York to make the most of it. After covering almost the whole city on our first weekend we also took in a Broadway show, walked the Brooklyn bridge and even got to play a game of football in Queens. Great start all round.

Our first week in NYC is now complete! Five days of intensive training and we’ve learnt a lot. We’re scheduled for our jobs to begin next week and it’s all very exciting.
It’s Wednesday evening and the training session ended earlier than expected. So in NYC style we decide to head towards Times Square, and within 15 minutes of leaving the office, we’ve purchased tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway with Patrick Thornton. Patrick was seconded from EisnerAmper LLP’s Philadelphia office to MKO from September to November 2014! Great to catch up with a good friend!
