EisnerAmper’s Blood Donation with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service

Blood Donation | Latest News | EisnerAmper Ireland

On Tuesday 10 March, a number of EisnerAmper staff members visited the Irish Blood Transfusion Service in their Stillorgan clinic to donate blood. We were delighted to be able to donate and help such an important cause. Staff members were offered a ‘work ferry service’ between our office and the clinic to attend their donation session, organised by the Stillorgan clinic.

Donating blood is extremely important as 1 in 4 people will need a blood transfusion at some stage in their lives and only 3% of the eligible Irish population are currently giving blood. One donation is capable of saving up to three lives.

The shelf life of blood is only 35 days and 3,000 units of blood is needed each week so consider donating blood today. Find out if you are eligible to give blood here.

CASSD Ball | Latest News | EisnerAmper Ireland

The Chartered Accountants Student Society of Dublin (CASSD) hosted their annual Ball on Saturday, 29 February in The Ballsbridge Hotel. Sarah Ryan, a member of EisnerAmper Ireland’s Accounting & Compliance team, who was elected Education Officer of the Chartered Accountants Student Society of Ireland (CASSI) at their Annual General Meeting on  1 February 2020 helped organise the event, which is one of the biggest in the student calendar each year.

This year, CASSD chose ‘Aware’ as their sponsored charity. Aware undertakes to create a society where people affected by stress, depression, bipolar disorder and mood related conditions are understood, supported, free from stigma, and are encouraged to access appropriate therapies. EisnerAmper Ireland was delighted to sponsor staff tickets for such a worthy cause.

The theme for the ball was “CASSD and the Chocolate Factory”. The evening kicked off with a Prosecco reception, where attendees were greeted by a live saxophone player. The smooth jazz provided a welcoming and relaxed atmospheric back-drop as students ate from a donut wall, popcorn machine, and took pictures next to giant Wonka and CASSD backdrops. There was also a “magic mirror” photo booth with blow up props for students to avial of. A great time was had by all.

Report on research into Credit Union Directors

Credit Union | Directors Report | Financial Services | EisnerAmper Ireland

The Credit Union Advisory Committee (“CUAC”) has published its report into the issues and challenges facing Credit Union Directors and to explore their role in the context of the current governance structure. A combination of focus groups, questionnaire and an online survey provided all Directors with a unique opportunity to voice their opinions, and the level of responses received demonstrated the value of this exercise. In total 924 Directors from 83% of Credit Unions contributed to the survey process while 36 Directors participated in focus groups. Arising from the results of the survey, CUAC has made recommendations to the Department of Finance, the Central Bank of Ireland and Credit Unions to consider which cover three areas: (i) legislation, regulation, supervision; (ii) structure and workings of the Board; and (iii) supports.

Diarmaid O’Keeffe, Partner and Head of Audit at EisnerAmper Ireland, was appointed by the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, to CUAC in September 2018. CUAC was established in 1997 to advise the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform regarding the improvement of the management of Credit Unions; the protection of the interests of members and creditors of Credit Unions; and other matters relating to Credit Unions upon which the Minister and the Central Bank of Ireland may from time to time seek the advice of the Committee.

Commenting on the Report, the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure & Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD said:

“I welcome this Report, and commend CUAC for giving all Directors an opportunity to voice their opinion directly. This report provides valuable insights into the role of Credit Union Directors, from 924 Directors themselves, and contains a considerable amount of data which can be used to benchmark the sector, now and into the future. Volunteer Directors perform a vital role in safeguarding and improving the sector whilst also upholding the unique ethos of the movement. It is now important that all stakeholders involved in the sector consider in detail the recommendations the report sets out to aid the role of these Directors.”

Defibrillator Installation in the EisnerAmper Office

CPR Training | Latest News | EisnerAmper Ireland

EisnerAmper’s CSR team are pleased to announce that a defibrillator has been installed in the office. Heart Safety Solutions are the leading supplier of defibrillators, AED storage and accessories throughout Ireland and were in our office today to provide quality first aid, healthcare and safety training services to our staff members.

A cardiac arrest is a sudden loss of heart function which causes a person to collapse. This is caused because something has gone wrong with the heart’s electrical system, and without immediate CPR and defibrillation the person will not survive. The chance of surviving a cardiac arrest jumps from 6% to 74% if the casualty is in a shockable rhythm and a defibrillator is deployed within 3 minutes, making it invaluable to have in our offices.

EisnerAmper partners with LauraLynn Children’s Hospice

LauraLynn Partnership | Latest News | EisnerAmper Ireland

EisnerAmper is proud to announce our corporate partnership with LauraLynn Children’s Hospice. EisnerAmper is partnering with LauraLynn, helping them to support children with life-limiting conditions to live as fulfilling lives as possible and receive the very best care at the end of life.

LauraLynn is Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice providing palliative care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. LauraLynn supports children and families from all 26 counties with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for families in their care – including physical comfort, health and well-being, as well as the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of care. Their holistic approach to care means they support the family as a whole, helping children to be children, rather than patients, and parents to be just Mum and Dad, rather than full-time carers.

Jennifer Kelly, Partner and Head of CSR at EisnerAmper Ireland said, “We are delighted to be partnering with LauraLynn Children’s Hospice for 2020. It is the second year our CSR Committee has been in progress and this is our first Corporate Partnership. This partnership will help support LauraLynn and children with life-limiting conditions to live as fulfilling lives as possible and receive the very best care at the end of life while bringing our employees closer together with a sense of purpose, engagement and connection.”

It costs approximately €5 million annually to fully operate LauraLynn’s specialised hospice care and we are delighted to be helping raise much needed funds for the charity. EisnerAmper is looking forward to participating in various fundraisers, volunteering opportunities and larger events like the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon to raise funds to help make a positive impact for the children in LauraLynn.

Niamh Doyle, Corporate Fundraiser for LauraLynn said, “We are delighted that EisnerAmper have selected LauraLynn as its charity partner; to be connected with an organisation with such a passion for charity engagement means so much to us. We simply could not provide our services without the fundraising effort of our community, and we look forward to working with the team to ensure that they fully understand the impact that their fundraising and support efforts have, in providing care to children with life limiting conditions in Ireland and their families.”

EisnerAmper Supports the Art O’Neill Challenge

Art O'Neill Challenge | Latest News | EisnerAmper Ireland

EisnerAmper’s CSR Committee was delighted to sponsor Peter Buckley, Head of Finance & Operations to take part in the Art O’Neill Challenge on Friday 17 January 2020.

The Art O’Neill Challenge is a unique event organised by, and solely for the benefit of, the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team. Its 53km route retraces a historic escape from Dublin Castle that happened in 1592. Art O’Neill, his brother Henry, and Red Hugh O’Donnell broke out of the Castle and made for Glenmalure to safety. On a freezing night the three made their way on foot and without the benefit of winter coats, having had to leave them in their cells. Henry and Hugh both made it to safety but sadly Art, for whom the Challenge is named, succumbed to hypothermia along the way.

Peter and his group set off from Dublin Castle at midnight and arrived at Glenmalure at 2pm on Saturday afternoon. It was a great achievement for Peter and his group.
