New York, 11 February 2015 – Supporting the Knicks

Andrew Duignan

After 4 weeks, I’m becoming more familiar with hedgefund audits and I’m enjoying my work!

This week we went to see the Knicks play the Boston Celtics and we had the chance to enjoy the sights the Brooklyn Bridge has to offer.  We also went to Central Park and built a snowman, which was a novelty for our fellow South African Secondees!

New York, 11 February 2015 – Busy days ahead

Louise Reynolds

lr-week-4This week I’ve been assigned a new client.  This job involves the audit of two hedge funds, an onshore and offshore fund with both public and private investments.  I’m going to be very busy for the next couple of weeks!

This week we managed to make it to a basketball game in Madison Square Garden to see the NY Knicks play the Boston Celtics and the Celtics won in the end.  We’re still keeping our eyes open for some ice hockey tickets for the NY Rangers as they’re having a very good season!

New York, 4 February 2015 – A great team dinner

Josie Egan

JE dinnerWe’re 2 weeks into our Secondment and  Tsafos, EisnerAmper  LLP Partner, took  the team and myself out to a Third Avenue Steakhouse.  Great food, great wine and great company!

We took a lift to the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Plaza, wrapped up warm, and headed out to the observation deck!  From the North, we could see Central Park, from the South, the Empire State Building.  Spectacular; the only way to describe the breath-taking view of NYC from the Top of the Rock!

San Francisco, 4 February 2015 – Business in the City of Angels

Karl Purcell

The week started with a quick day trip to LA to meet a new client we are working with for the first time.  It was a great experience and very useful for gaining an understanding of the unique characteristics of the fund, and learning about the rationale for the investment strategy.

The weather has been brilliant (I could get used to 20 degrees in January!) so we have been doing plenty of exploring at the weekends.  Each neighbourhood has its own atmosphere and great places to eat and drink!  Super Bowl Sunday was also certainly an experience to remember!

New York, 4 February 2015 – ‘Blizzard Juno’ and ice skating in Central Park

Michael O’Malley

mom-week3Week three and busy season is now in full swing.  I’m currently working on two multi fund private equity partnerships, reviewing how fund managers value a level 3 private company is very interesting. As each day passes, we are learning more about the process of auditing funds.

‘Blizzard Juno’ hit New York at the beginning of the week.  The city was shut down for 12 hours or so but in the aftermath it gave us a chance to go sledging and ice skating in the winter wonderland that was Central Park.  Another busy weekend with Friday happy hour organized by the office and a super bowl party on a roof top bar overlooking New York City.

San Francisco, 29 January 2015 – Settling into the Broker-Dealer Audit Team

Roisin Cahill

I’m now in my fourth week working with the broker-dealer Audit team.  I’ve got to visit clients in some pretty nice locations including Mountain View!!

I’ve spent some time exploring and lots of time shopping!  Crossed the Golden Gate Bridge last weekend, that was a pretty impressive sight!

New York, 29 January 2015 – Working hard on a Hedge Funds audit

Andrew Duignan

ad-week-2So we’ve started our work experience!  I’ve been  assigned to work on an audit for a Hedge Fund client.  Everyone here is super helpful and we’re working hard!

Despite a busy work schedule, we found time to enjoy  the sights with our fellow Secondees from South  Africa.  As you can see, the rooftop bar on 230 and fifth  has superb views of the New York skyline!

New York, 29 January 2015 – It’s not all work, and no play

Louise Reynolds

lr-week2This week we’ve all been assigned our clients and it’s all starting to feel more real.  I was assigned to the audit of a number of Private Equity clients this week which is really interesting.  My Manager has been very helpful in providing support and guidance as we begin our assignments.

Even though the temperatures were well below zero we decided to take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry to get a better view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan.  We couldn’t manage more than 5 minutes outside in the cold before it was time to go back inside again!

San Francisco, 21 January 2015 – Settling into the Golden State

Karl Purcell

The first couple of weeks have been busy.  It’s all about getting up to speed and we’re learning plenty.  The view from the office over San Francisco is great!

A great party to welcome new arrivals to the team was organised.  Along with myself and my colleague, Roisin Cahill, from the Dublin office, there are four secondees from the Mumbai office and some new joiners too.

New York, 21 January 2015 – New York, New York

Michael O’Malley

mom-week-1The first week was exciting for everyone, settling into a new place, meeting new people and learning the ways of a new firm.  Our jobs for next week have been assigned and I’m looking forward to getting started!

New York City was not something new to me, but -8 degrees when we arrived at JFK airport was!!

We didn’t let the cold stop us though, we are in New York to make the most of it. After covering almost the whole city on our first weekend we also took in a Broadway show, walked the Brooklyn bridge and even got to play a game of football in Queens.  Great start all round.

New York, 21 January 2015 – New City, Old Friends

Josie Egan

je-week1Our first week in NYC is now complete!  Five days of intensive training and we’ve learnt a lot. We’re scheduled for our jobs to begin next week and it’s all very exciting.

It’s Wednesday evening and the training session ended earlier than expected.  So in NYC style we decide to head towards Times Square, and within 15 minutes of leaving the office, we’ve purchased tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway with Patrick Thornton.  Patrick was seconded from EisnerAmper LLP’s Philadelphia office to MKO from September to November 2014!  Great to catch up with a good friend!
