EisnerAmper Ireland hosts Australian Trade Minister with Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce
On Thursday July 19 2018, EisnerAmper Ireland co-hosted a briefing with the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce to welcome the Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Hon Steven Ciobo to Dublin. The event, which was hosted in the Stephens Green Hibernian Club, was a great opportunity to meet and engage with Minister Ciobo and network with the Irish and Australian business communities. The lunch was well attended with over 70 guests including Australian and Irish government officials, senior leaders within the Irish and Australian business communities, leaders of trade bodies including IDA Ireland, Austrade, The Irish Exporters Association and Enterprise Ireland, and members of the press. The visit has marked the first time in 20 years that an Australian trade minister has visited Ireland.
Minister Ciobo is pursuing the most ambitious trade agenda in Australia’s history. Since becoming Trade Minister in February 2016, he has concluded four trade agreements covering 19 countries. The trade agreements concluded, or currently being negotiated, by Minister Ciobo cover economies that account for more than 61 percent of the world’s GDP.
Themes discussed by Ciobo during the lunch event included the potential of Australia and Ireland as global centres for international trade in addition to the great relationship and similarities between both countries. Minister Ciobo also noted that a number of Australian companies operating in Europe are likely to look at locating activities in Ireland due to Brexit. Other speakers at the event included Gavin Lee, Head of International Trade at EisnerAmper Ireland and Peter Oakes, President of the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce and a Director of multiple financial service entities. A Q&A session with the Minister was also chaired by Vincent Crowley, Vice President of the Irish Chapter of the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce.

On Thursday 12 July 2018, EisnerAmper Ireland held a graduation ceremony for its Credit Union Head of Finance course graduates in Pearl Brasserie, Merrion Street, Dublin 2.
Frank Keane, Partner and Head of EisnerAmper Ireland’s Training & Consulting team provided a 12-week long lecture series held in Chartered Accountants House, Pearse Street, Dublin 2. The course was tailored to the needs of Credit Union Head of Finance role holders in the current regulatory environment and was primarily aimed at senior Credit Union employees, particularly those working in the finance functions or at CEO / Manager level across Credit Unions in Ireland.
As part of the Central Bank of Ireland’s increased focus on the strategic capabilities of Credit Unions and their management, the role of Head of Finance is now subject to more intensive regulatory supervision. The course was specially designed to develop and consolidate the competencies of a Credit Union Head of Finance.
The aim of the course was not only to provide Credit Union Managers with a comprehensive understanding of the current regulatory context within Credit Unions, but also to create a community for ongoing peer learning facilitated by EisnerAmper.
